Magazine Cover Conventions Reflection

Reflection:

Creating my magazine cover taught me a lot about the conventions used in real magazines. Before this project, I didn’t understand how important the placement of text, the hierarchy of fonts, and the use of consistent colors were. Learning about mastheads, coverlines, and barcodes helped me design a cover that looks professional and organized. For my genre, I chose a news and economic trends magazine. My main headline about inflation, along with topics like rising college costs and money-saving tips, helps communicate that the magazine focuses on financial issues that affect everyday people. The font, thought-out layout, and serious tone all support the genre. I used several conventions, such as a masthead, a main coverline, supporting coverlines around the image, a barcode, and the issue date and volume number. These choices help the cover look realistic and help draw attention to the magazine. One challenge I had was making the text stand out against the background. Adjusting the image transparency and repositioning the text helped fix that. A success was getting the spacing right. My biggest takeaway is that design requires intentional choices to guide the reader. This will help me with my portfolio because I now understand how to make layouts that look neat and professional.

Video Editing Reflection

Video Editing Reflection:

When I first started using Adobe Premiere Pro, I found it challenging to learn. The hardest part was setting up the project, especially importing video files and organizing everything, like music tracks. Once I sorted out these file management problems, I worked on syncing the audio, which meant making careful, frame-by-frame edits to match the cuts with the sound. Finishing the clip with the right visual flow and adding smooth transitions and graphics felt like a big accomplishment. This project showed me how important it is to plan ahead and pay attention to audio quality. Next time, I want to work faster by learning keyboard shortcuts and always using non-destructive editing. I’ll use these skills to make my next portfolio project more complex and polished.
