Introduction

 Introduction

Hey everyone! I'm a senior in high school, and like a lot of people my age, I'm trying to figure out the path after graduation. For me, that's all about animals. My big dream is to become a vet, so I spend a lot of time volunteering with local animal hospitals and trying to learn everything I can about animal welfare.

My Media Studies Journey

This year, I signed up for a Media Studies class, and honestly, I wasn't sure how it would fit with my vet aspirations. But it's been surprisingly cool. It’s made me see how powerful media can be. For example, we learned about how different media effects create different perspectives on the said media. It's changed how I look at my own social media feeds and the news.

The Portfolio Project

Now we're starting a portfolio project, and I'm pretty excited about it. This is a chance for me to take everything I'm learning about media and actually apply it to something I care about. I'm hoping to use this project to build a stronger application for college and to show admissions committees that I can connect my passions to a professional skill set. It's a way for me to prove that my interest in animals goes beyond just loving them; it's about being able to effectively advocate for them.

The product I'm considering is a short documentary about a local animal hospital. I want to highlight the day-to-day work they do and the journeys of some of the animals they've saved. I think a film would be a great way to show the emotional side of what they do, capturing the before-and-after stories of injured pets. It's the perfect way for me to combine my new media skills with my lifelong love for animals.
